Hello, friends and followers.

It's been a long couple of months, I know. Mea culpa!

This is just a quick update to let you all know that I am starting up my social media activities again as of today, including more helpful and interesting business articles. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to resume posting 5 days a week yet, or what my exact schedule is going to be, but I'll figure that out over the next week or so.

In the meantime, I hope everyone had an excellent holiday and new year, and please stay tuned for more content very soon.

Scarcity and Time Management

I didn't really have a proper article planned out for today, so it seemed like a good time to talk about time management. As a small business owner, you have to wear a lot of hats on a regular basis. In addition to whatever your actual company function is (IT consultant, plumber, electrician, artist, or whatever), you may also have to act as your company's accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer, tech support, receptionist, marketer, ad executive, web designer, research assistant, and so forth. That's just if you're a single employee company! If you have actual employees working for you, then you may also have to act as HR, trainer, manager, payroll, and conflict resolution as well, on top of your normal (paying) work. As a self employed family man with a working wife, the list gets even longer - I'm also a chef, personal shopper, house cleaner, and chauffeur. Making Better Products

Why do companies feel the need to use deceptive tactics to get people to buy their products? Wouldn't it make more sense to make a better product in the first place, than trying to trick people into buying the bad ones? You see this kind of thing all the time, but most notably in the entertainment industry. When Rotten Tomato scores for The Emoji Movie hit 0% based on a few early reviews, Sony shut down all previews until the day before release, desperately trying to halt the inexorable tide of negativity. This lead to a pretty big opening day, but a sharp drop-off afterwards (because the movie was terrible). Rather than waste all that time, energy, and money on a clearly bad product, why not just make something better? Why not cut your losses and abandon the project, rather than try to trick people, earning bad will for future projects? For some reason, big companies just don't think this way.
